Chandra Jackson

Chandra Jackson, PhD, is addressing health disparities in minority groups by investigating how social and environmental factors impact sleep health and contribute to chronic diseases. As an Earl Stadtman Investigator at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) and an adjunct investigator at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), Jackson leads research on the social and environmental determinants of health equity.

Her work focuses on understanding how poor sleep, influenced by factors like noise, light pollution, and socioeconomic stressors, disproportionately affects minority populations. Jackson’s research aims to identify modifiable upstream determinants of sleep health to inform interventions that can prevent chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

By highlighting the importance of sleep health and its role in overall well-being, Jackson’s work seeks to develop effective strategies to mitigate health disparities and improve health outcomes for minority communities.
