Danielle Shpiner is addressing health disparities by focusing on improving advance care planning (ACP) among Hispanic Parkinson’s disease patients in Miami. Her research explores why this population often faces barriers to accessing ACP discussions with their healthcare providers. Through focus groups and interviews with Hispanic patients and their care partners, Shpiner aims to understand the reasons behind this disparity and develop strategies to improve access. By addressing these barriers, she seeks to empower Hispanic patients to actively participate in ACP, ensuring their end-of-life care preferences are honored and that they receive culturally sensitive support. This work contributes to reducing health disparities by promoting equitable access to ACP for a historically underserved population.
