Jungyoon Kim

Dr. Jungyoon Kim addresses health disparities in minority groups through her innovative “BEAT Cancer” project. This initiative focuses on expanding colorectal cancer screening among African Americans in Nebraska. Kim partners with the Department of Motor Vehicles, Douglas County Treasurer’s Office, and community stakeholders to increase screening access. The project employs community health workers to engage residents at DMV and treasurer’s office locations, providing information and at-home screening kits.

In its first year, BEAT Cancer reached over 3,500 individuals, distributed 340 screening kits, and identified 19 positive results. The initiative also supports follow-up care, particularly for those lacking primary care providers or health insurance.
